December Update

Dear Backers,

We are excited to let you know that all of you should receive your QuadFusion print head soon!

Using feedback from some of our beta testers, we have made a few small changes to improve the product and we are very happy to say that all outstanding orders will get these upgrades for free.

We updated the heatblock to a thick anodized one which retains heat better, is more scratch resistant, and doesn’t stick to filament as easily. Please note, the heatblock is expected to change color from black to brown after usage, which is normal for the material. We also upgraded the thermistor to a high-quality copper one to make it compatible with a wider range of printers. Most importantly, we added a metal insert to the nozzle. This drastically improves the consistency of retraction as well as extrusion speed and increases reliability.

We cannot ship your QuadFusion to you until you complete the final checkout process. Instructions for this have been emailed out to all of you so please complete this or contact us at  if you have not received the instructions from us.

Thanks for your continued support & Happy Holidays!

October Shipping Update

Oct 11, 2018 - 5:51 PM

Hi everyone,

We are excited to let you know that we are about to begin shipping out your QuadFusion print heads!

You should have received an email with the subject line “M3D CHECKOUT - The QuadFusion Print Head - The Moment You've Been Waiting For IS HERE”, inviting you to complete the final checkout. This is where you can verify your shipping address and add accessories to your order. Please ensure you complete this soon so we could add your order to the shipping queue. We will be sending out a reminder email to those of you who have not yet completed this.

If you will be mounting your QuadFusion head onto another 3D printer, please see a list of recommended add-ons below:

Since requests for mounting the QuadFusion onto a CR-10 or a Prusa i3 were the most popular, we have created custom upgrade kits with everything you need to start printing in color on those two machines. Additionally, if you do not want to worry about mounting your QuadFusion onto another 3D printer, one of the options available to you is to upgrade it to a fully assembled Crane Quad.

Thanks again for supporting the QuadFusion project, and we can’t wait to hear about your color 3D printing experiences! If you have any questions you can email us at, or as always you can join our community on Discord.

August Update

Hi everyone,

Hope your summer is going well so far! We have been busy testing the QuadFusion print heads and producing lots of multi-color prints! If you haven’t seen them already, check out some of our most recent projects that we created on various printers:

Recent Timelapses

Here are some timelapses of our recent prints so you can see the QuadFusion in action! In the fish timelapse, the print head switches from one color filament to another, but in the frog timelapse, the QuadFusion is mixing different ratios CMYK filaments together to create new colors!

Assembly and Beta Testing

We set up our assembly line and have begun putting together the first QuadFusion beta units (check out the images below).

We have been beta testing the units and sending a few users quad heads without our final fan/cooling solution to speed up the process. Beta testers who receive this early release version will help us improve our product guides, as well as provide general feedback, so we can implement improvements for later shipments when they start going out to other backers!

We are looking for a few more beta testers, so please email us at if interested.

Recent Changes

Based on the testing and feedback we’ve received so far, we made a few small hardware tweaks with the fan, and made the fan holders stronger and angled them inward for more symmetrical fan cooling over the print. Above all, we also noticed an issue where fan blades were breaking and getting in the way of changing your nozzle, so we moved the fan from the front to the back in order to correct this. We have also recently finalized our logo plate.

Left - The updated front side of the QuadFusion head. Right - The updated back side of the QuadFusion head, the fan is internally ducted.

We mounted the head on a Makerbot Replicator 2, a Prusa i3, and a CR-10, here is a video of those in action:

Checkouts and Shipping

We have been testing shipping procedures so we can begin shipping your units out in approximately 30 days. In preparation for this, we will be sending you checkout invitations to confirm your delivery information within the next 1-2 weeks.

Your QuadFusion print head will come with four motors, three fans, a 0.35mm Quad Compound nozzle and Quad Compound PTFE insert. It will not come with the electronics you need to control it, but you will be able to add a Duet 2 Maestro, Extruder Expansion Board, CMYK filaments, and other highly useful add-ons and options during checkout.

Additionally, to help you get started once you receive your units, we created a user documentation page ( and are populating it with information and guides as we go.

Thank you again for backing this project and for taking the time to read this update. Keep an eye out for the checkout email which will be coming your way later this month, and have a great rest of your summer!
